If you’re a regular visitor, you should know that Web Designer Wall is always giving out free Flash components. This time, we’re giving out 5 copies of 3D Wall from Flashloaded. 3D Wall is a Flash CS3 component that lets you create an interactive wall that looks 3D! It’s very flexible, easy to use, and is a cool addition to any gallery/portfolio sites (check out my samples: Demo 1 and Demo 2)

If you missed our free PhotoFlow component draw last time, you don’t want to miss this one!

Update: The contest is now closed and the winners are: 91, 221, 658, 825, and 980.

How To Win Your Free Copy?

  • Post your comments about the 3D Wall in this post.
  • One entry per person. Duplicate comments will be voided and deleted.
  • Winners will be contacted by email (so make sure your email address is correct).

Comment entries will be accepted until June 6, 2008. Then we will randomly generate 5 winning numbers from the comment list. 5 winners will receive a free copy of the Flashloaded 3D Wall component.

What is 3D Wall?

3d wall screenshot

3D Wall is a Flash CS3 component that allows you to create a stunning 3D interactive wall without any ActionScript skills. Create a unique look for you photo gallery or portfolio by letting your visitors scroll, tilt, or zoom through an interactive wall of pictures that you can make flat, curved, or angled.

3D Wall includes a built-in preloader for seamless transitions between thumbs and large images (images are specified in an external XML file). There are over 60 parameters to customize your wall, so you’ll have an unlimited number of looks and an enticing viewer experience.

How Does 3D Wall Work?

3D Wall is extremely easy to use. All you have to do is drop the component on the stage, customize the dimension and parameters, and within minutes you can create a completely interactive photo gallery. Below are two samples I created. With just several parameter changes, I designed two very different looking walls. Nice and easy. No programming at all.

While I like free giveaways (and this is my entry!) I’m always wishing WDW would have more quality content! =) I’d take a nice article over a giveaway any day! (how much rhyming and alliteration can I get…?)

May 21, 2008 at 1:14 pm

I wonder if I could tweak this to create a video wall. I would be fun to try.

May 21, 2008 at 1:19 pm

What a great Flash component. This is how I would like to see my photos on my AppleTV!

May 21, 2008 at 1:19 pm

Cool result with the 3d wall! Wouldn’t mind using this as well!

May 21, 2008 at 1:19 pm

3D wall looks a lot like an art project I did in college… except it was on a literal wall… and the only interaction was me getting to put it all up and take it all down.
Hours of fun.
3D wall looks a LOT more practical! :)

love your site! and this is very cool!
im not sure if it’s my version of flash, but there seems to be a bug in the demos..if i triple click (click thumb and zoom in, click out while its loading, then click back in before it loads/goes all the way back out) i stay zoomed in. which makes it very difficult to navigate…hmm

Reminds me of PicLens. I have tried to keep PicLens out of our design team view for fear of them wanting us to build this in a few days. With this kind of component, we could pull it off.

May 21, 2008 at 3:34 pm

very slick designs, navigation could be more intuitive though. I would love to dig into this and create a portfolio.

May 21, 2008 at 3:34 pm

Hi Nick,
This is the best component made for flash. It really saves a lot of time in understanding the complexity of the back-end coding to do something like this in actionscript and gives a lot of freedom for creativity. Great tool…

May 21, 2008 at 3:34 pm

I think this is one of the best picture gallery around these days!

Kent Hustead
May 21, 2008 at 3:38 pm

Awesome stuff, I could use on my website :).

Todd Smith
May 21, 2008 at 3:58 pm

Wow! What a spectacular display. As a photographer, I’d love to show off some work with this 3D Wall.

My only negative experience is that my eyes got tired when the pictures were switching… I found myself not wanting to browse very long because of it. Maybe it needs a faster frame rate.

I love the fact that keyboard arrows work for navigation!

May 21, 2008 at 4:00 pm

Very good component – flexible use of bringing in external jpgs. Much like the cover flow component that I have used on my website but this is a much more visually impressive and interactive way of displaying images.

I had a vision of this being my entire portfolio, bam! right there on the website. I could just tell people, “hey go to my website! its cool!” and they would see this flash presentation and be blown away. I would give the creators credit of course :)

May 21, 2008 at 5:30 pm

Here is my details!

May 21, 2008 at 5:32 pm

It looks pretty good. I love this shiny galleries!!

May 21, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Very neat and effective. Minor quibbles:
* Interface is dead-on with expectations… except when looking at a particular picture: clicking on the thin border on left or right some times moves to the next picture in that direction (which I expected, and would provide a good “detailed” modality of navigation), but in other cases is spun the “tube” for about half full rotation. Couldn’t understand why one or the other
* The vertical component of the “flip” gesture seems to be inverted, gestures sliding downwards move the top of the vertical axis of the cylinder towards the back. A “physical interpretation” of the gesture would suggest that, if you are ‘grabbing’ the cylinder, its vertical axis should move so that the top end becomes closer (i.e., the cylinder would fall on its face towards the viewer).
* I wonder how it scales with much larger numbers of pics?
Very neat, as I said, just minor quibbles – just to show you I care enough to be a good recipient of your free sample :)

This component is great~! Now if only there is an easy way to feed the walls with RSS from my Picasa albums… Hmm…

May 21, 2008 at 5:54 pm

My one problem is that it’s a sort of technology geek’s (like myself) component and it’s not very user friendly with all the people who don’t know much about online accessibility. Anyway, here are my details! Fingers crossed xD

Michał Żadkowski
May 21, 2008 at 5:55 pm

Wonder how many photos can fit into this 3D gallery?

This is UBER COOL!!! I couldn’t wait to try this! Please let me win a copy of 3D Wall by FlashLoaded!

Mr Maze
May 22, 2008 at 2:10 am

Wow, very nice gallery. I haven’t browsed through all of the comments, but the method reminds me of TiltViewer from Airtight Interactive (Using a flash interface with images specified in an external XML file). The only thing I would do if I used this would be to put some navigation instructions in my page or the frame of a shadowbox/lightbox/highslide.

May 22, 2008 at 2:21 am

I have nothing against to win it.

May 22, 2008 at 2:22 am

Love this effect. Im trying to create something similar in as3 so that it could pull in dynamic content from a database. Although if i win a copy, i might avoid all the hassle. Great competition…!

May 22, 2008 at 2:27 am

This is awesome Nick!

This seems like a rather useful bit of kit, reminds me of the firefox plugin PicLens.

I’d like to know if you are stuck with the default look though, can you modify the background so you can make use of the thumbnail option over any image?

I’ve never tried a flash component before, but since I’m on the first stage of building a new flash photoblog for myself, this might be a good time to start!

Wonderful site btw, I’ve been reading this wall for a couple of weeks now and I love it. Great content and a very inspirational design!

This would be awesome to win. Let’s see what happens.

May 22, 2008 at 4:05 am

Thanks for providing this offer to us. :-)

Regarding the 3-D wall, just wondering would it be better to add a drag-bar in the box to help rotate the wall? If you have ever used the PicLen add-on for firefox on windows/mac, you know what I mean. Just a suggestion.

May 22, 2008 at 4:09 am

Sébastien Fichot
May 22, 2008 at 3:35 pm

3DWall is great ! It’s an amazing feature seen in Apple’s worlds. This allow to take a quick view to the entire set of a picture to mesurate the tonality of whole release, as well as zooming a specific picture. I’m pretty sure we can make a wall-art with this app.

May 22, 2008 at 3:39 pm

YAY 3D Wall Me Now!!!

We are currently redesigning the website for our print shop and this would be awesome to show samples of our printing and graphic design work!

I love the way the images load and the overall smoothness in the way it operates. Props.

May 22, 2008 at 5:30 pm

chk ot my portfolio website :)

May 22, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Its these sort of -slap you in the face, steal your wallet and still seem quite sexy- additions that make a small-ish website memorable.

May 22, 2008 at 6:10 pm

Like the demos, however would be nice if you didn’t need to click to make the wall move.

Rafael Valdés
May 22, 2008 at 6:27 pm

3D Wall is a great app that can help people to show their photos (photographers) or designs (designers btw!) in a cool and cute UI, like a stack surrounding or a lot of things different.

May 22, 2008 at 6:32 pm

This is pretty cool, I’d love to have this kind of thing for a portfolio site. So many different options.

May 22, 2008 at 6:48 pm

Sweet, I want a copy!

May 22, 2008 at 6:50 pm

Pick me and I will give you a virtual hug.

May 22, 2008 at 8:56 pm

FlashLoaded is awesome for coming up with cool new components… Innovation is awesome.

May 22, 2008 at 8:58 pm

A very spiffy little plug-in, I could easily use this on my sites. My only minor issue with it is that there is no invitation to play with it, the user is expected to do this intuitively. Easily fixed with a bit of intro text and the user would have to be pretty thick to miss it, but we all know how mentally challenged some users can be…

May 22, 2008 at 9:02 pm

wow, it looks like a great component! looks great and saves a lot time!

May 22, 2008 at 9:09 pm

I look forward to winning this. Very much.

That is so cool. Finally seeing flash used in an original and useful way. I’m very impressed by the talent displayed.

May 22, 2008 at 10:06 pm

That’s so very intriguing. I have never seen a flash thing done that way before. But it’s such a neat way to display artwork. Is that all it can do though? Can’t you also design how you want the wall to look itself? Like what if I want to make it pink, or add a background to it, to match the website? o_o”

May 22, 2008 at 10:13 pm

Wow. That’s really cool. Hope I win!

May 22, 2008 at 10:26 pm

May 24, 2008 at 7:09 pm

Very interesting component – I would like to play with it and see what can I get out of it..

May 24, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Lovely component! A great addition to a flash library indeed! :-) Would love to change some of the formulas inside it! Maybe have it rotate vertically… or to create geometrical shapes with the thumbs! :-))

May 24, 2008 at 10:50 pm

Great tool, I sure will be able to use this to display my very huge picture gallery on my website. Could look cool, cant wait to lay my hands on them.

May 24, 2008 at 11:25 pm

Awesome stuff. Make things look so fresh. It’s amazing how many people still don’t know these things exist.

May 24, 2008 at 11:52 pm

This is very awesome flash component, thanks for the show!

May 25, 2008 at 2:08 am

Wow pretty cool component, this is a great way to publish the screenshots for the game i am working on :)

May 25, 2008 at 2:32 am

I would love this for my portfolio. Hope I get chosen!

Ria Little
May 25, 2008 at 3:45 am

Wow, the wall looks fantastic! one thing that would make it a wee bit better for me though, is if you could click and drag on the thumbnails themselves to rotate/tilt the view, it seems natural on most touch-screen technologies that if you can click and drag, it’ll work if the initial click is on a link or not :) (Would still love a fee copy!)

May 25, 2008 at 4:32 am

3d wall looks grate. i’d love to have one in my house :)

May 25, 2008 at 4:52 am

Really great thing. I would like to have it ^^

May 25, 2008 at 5:55 am

like it. wouldnt mind having one of those.

May 25, 2008 at 7:19 am

I haven’t really looked into Flash components like this so far – what a great way to start!

May 25, 2008 at 7:44 am

May 25, 2008 at 8:03 am

Wow. That looks like an awesome flash component.

I bet it could make some kick-ass portfolios.

May 25, 2008 at 8:06 am

I would love a large wall mounted touch screen in my home with these capabilities for my favorite pictures. It would be cool if, when a picture was touched, a call was automatically placed from the wall to that person. That’s a product I would buy!

May 25, 2008 at 8:29 am

Definitely something I would use on my gallery. Love those flash component, help a lot for people like me who are not yet experts in Flash.

Thanks Web designer wall and Flashloaded.

May 25, 2008 at 8:41 am

May 25, 2008 at 9:11 am

With a 3D wall like that on my website I’m sure to get all the hot babes! .. or clients :)

That is bad ass. I want it.

May 25, 2008 at 2:19 pm

WOW, This is something that would work great on my new portfolio. ^-^

May 26, 2008 at 3:41 am

papervision is the best , so is flash, dynamic application are the way forward !

May 26, 2008 at 4:47 am

It’s actually quite a stunning approach to displaying a gallery using Flash and XML. It looks simple and eye-catchy. It also looks nifty in terms of user-friendliness and because of the intuitive controls, for that reason it’s very inviting for any user to roam and pan like a director’s Panavision camera. I imagine the workflow would be easy to use and maintain when new photos are awaiting the 3D Wall treatment. Would love the opportunity to work with the Flash component and make the best of it.

May 26, 2008 at 5:11 am

This really is very nice :D can be used great on a lot of different websites :)

May 26, 2008 at 5:16 am

Realy nice!

Eric Kelleher
May 26, 2008 at 5:27 am

This is the slickest version of the cover view theme i have seen so far! Great Job!

May 26, 2008 at 5:49 am

Great tool!
I prefer the inner visual…

May 26, 2008 at 5:54 am

Wow! The inner view looks pretty nice. I’d love to win this component.

May 26, 2008 at 7:47 am

May 26, 2008 at 8:59 am

Anibal Sólon
May 26, 2008 at 9:13 am

Very useful!

May 26, 2008 at 9:24 am

seems like a really good tool, tried it – really nice but loads a bit slow. Anyhow I like…

May 26, 2008 at 9:41 am

It looks great, especially the one on demo2.
I wish I had something similar on my personnal website.

100$, i guess it worths the cost. It always looks good on a website.
Just wondering if u can load pictures dynamically from PHP script that communicate with a MySQL database?

May 26, 2008 at 10:20 am

Great, you can replace images with pages and use it as a navigation tool.
lovely. Im in

Cayo Medeiros
May 26, 2008 at 10:37 am

That would save a lot of time…

May 26, 2008 at 10:47 am

weird. How many other sites are doing this give-away? Ether way, I use a FireFox addon called PicLens that does a similar thing. But this is still pretty cool looking. I’m trying to visualize a practical use on my site right now for this.

May 26, 2008 at 11:20 am

This would be a perfect way to show my work. I’m trying to make my website right now. And I would love to add this to it.

May 26, 2008 at 11:27 am

I’ve just ventured into the wide world of Flash to create my portfolio site, and this’d help me along my way! I like the animation and interaction, but I feel like a left and right rotate feature is missing. It’s not intuitive enough to just click on the left/right-most image to get an overview of all the work.

May 26, 2008 at 12:02 pm

awesome! though, the spinning makes me a little dizzy…

Cayo Magno
May 26, 2008 at 12:38 pm

Wow, sooo amazing!

Kelley van Evert
May 26, 2008 at 12:50 pm

One thing: I’m now using a mouse without scroller, and it’s very irritating if you can’t scroll out in demo 2

Giuseppe Grammatico
May 26, 2008 at 1:02 pm

Wow.. it’s wonderful what this component could do… Really a must for every web photo gallery! :) i love it

May 26, 2008 at 2:05 pm

That must have been the mot awesome use of Flash I’ve seen in a long while.

May 26, 2008 at 2:12 pm

This component open new ways to show contents on the web, amazing!

luke h
May 26, 2008 at 2:25 pm

Wow, that’s really cool :D

I wonder how complicated it was to code…

May 26, 2008 at 2:29 pm

i really like this! i’m not much of a flash designer BUT i could see myself using this component. The zoom looks soooo good! very elegant and modern.

May 26, 2008 at 2:41 pm

Demo 1 is amazing. I am so affected by the rotation that I had to play with it for a while. This kind of got me away from thumbnails and works themselves, but it is because I was checking the 3D Wall out and how it worked. It is great.

May 26, 2008 at 3:13 pm

That is so awesome!

Ryan Silvester
May 26, 2008 at 3:56 pm

Hey this looks awesome, It would look sweet as a gallery. =D

May 26, 2008 at 4:19 pm

It looks so cool. I’m sure it took forever to create. It’s nice that components like this are made available. It’s so sleek and modern. Very nice feel to it. I like demo 1 for its complexity, but demo 2 seems more user friendly.

May 26, 2008 at 8:04 pm

I love the 360 one – mainly cause the images never “end”.

I will be adding this component in my next newsletter for my clients to see.

May 26, 2008 at 8:08 pm

very interesting, this reminds me of PicLens but that’s a plugin to use for other websites. This is clearly the product to use on a personal page; which is what I have, so I hope I win.

May 26, 2008 at 8:45 pm

May 27, 2008 at 11:06 am

this is rad!

May 27, 2008 at 11:09 am

Simply marvelous! The 3D wall 1 is better since you have actual control over the movements of the gallery.

This is a great product especially for designers that are not coders or ActionScripters. Not only does it save you the hassle of coding this thing, but it saves a lot of time for every project! I would love to have a copy of this! Hope I get one!

Thanks a lot for the contest Nick! And Props to FlashLoaded! :)

I have seen a few implementations of this and am continually amazed at how smooth it is. Obviously different computers will handle it differently, but over all it seems pretty light weight and quick / clean. Very cool indeed.

May 27, 2008 at 4:54 pm

fantastic. it’s like PicLens, only a personal version. BTW, does this work with PicLens?

I’m so non-hacker old-school visual artist with updated mix & match components. I could really use something like this to show my work. My fingers are crossed.

Cheers from Vancouver Canada

May 27, 2008 at 4:54 pm

That is very nicely done Flash component! Reminds me of Apple’s cowerflow only Wall seems to be providing more variations.

May 28, 2008 at 2:15 am

Awesome Papervision component – Iøm a bit nervous that I’ll never be able to code that effect myself, it’s so smooth and elegant! Nice work – and nice choice for a give away.

Levon Gravett
May 28, 2008 at 3:11 am

Simply BEAUTIFUL! Love the smoothness of the transition. Good question about the linking of images, would be interesting to see. Good choice for a give away.

May 28, 2008 at 3:36 am

It does look great… for web designers… but do you really think users are willing to wait a whole minute while the gallery loads if they’re just interested maybe in one single picture? I’m not so sure. Cool design, but the waiting time is just tedious, I’m afraid.

May 28, 2008 at 3:43 am

I like the idea of this component. I think it simply works… I think I can do more with it…
Good for presentation purpose i suppose!!

I love this site, visit it weekly and appreciate the insights and resources. Thanx.

May 28, 2008 at 9:23 am

really neat, and beautiful imagery … one suggestion, though; if there were small arrows to let folks spin around that would make it *perfect*

Very nice!

May 28, 2008 at 9:32 am

Great site! I have become a weekly reader. Great topics, tutorials and web news.

May 28, 2008 at 10:03 am

May 28, 2008 at 10:06 am

I’ve visited this site for quite sometimes. It is a great site for tips and tricks, especially in webdesigning field. The layout of this site (blog) is indeed greatly developed and designed. Anyway, 3D Wall is a great tool that i wish to have it. It is just simply classy and it reminds me of Apple TV demo.

Keep up the good work here!!!

May 28, 2008 at 11:10 am

Very nice component. The demos performed very well!

Cheers and Good Luck everyone!

great stylish and cool component, since i saw the pic-lens add on for firefox, i´ve wondering if something like that will build in flash.
and is this 3d wall.

May 28, 2008 at 12:01 pm

photowall looks fantastic! would be a great way to showcase my portfolio pieces. keeping my fingers crossed… :)x

May 28, 2008 at 12:32 pm

I definitely like the wall, but I wonder if it could have added functionality? I haven’t read through 78 pages of posts so this may have been brought up, but it seems that small cursor tips could be incorporated to enhance usability. Example: when a mouse is hovered over a photo cursor changes to zoom icon with + symbol; if mouse is off photo and upper-right (when zoomed out) cursor changes to a rotate-right symbol… and so on. I didn’t have much problem figuring out the navigation aspects, but I can guarantee my parents would be frustrated really quick. Anyway, that’s my .02.

Fantastic 3D gallery functionality. I am currently working on my site as it is just a holding page at the moment and would love to add an interactive gallery like 3D Wall. I’ve always liked the iTunes style flash component but this definately would be my first choice.

May 29, 2008 at 2:17 am

Products like this are making the web a better place.

May 29, 2008 at 7:51 am

I’m not a devotee of Flash but this component is very impressive

May 29, 2008 at 8:38 am

This component is very impressive since you can probably show pictures, videos and movieclips. I’m just wondering why the navigation isn’t more explicit or obvious.

Great addition for an online Portfolio.
