As a 20 year old New Media designer, I would love the opportunity to learn more and experience so much knowledge in one place and listen to the great leaders of my industry. It is my passion to continue furthering myself so that one day I can be someone speaking at of these events, and teaching others about the ways of the web.
Thanks for the great blog,

Christopher

Thanks so much for posting this. I’m a NY based design technology consultant (mostly 3d for architects) and I’m doing more and more web work (Intranets with drupal and WP). Trained as an architects I was never really taught how to design for the web. Although I find designing for the web to be a lot like designing buildings, their is a lot of nuance and and this would be an amazing opportunity to learn by attending the FOWD conference.

Thanks again!!

I work by myself (and with my clients), doing freelance web design and development – so I relish any chance to connect with fellow practitioners. We’re a web development firm in London, Ontario (a quick trip to NYC). FOWA and FOWD are events that we’ve followed closely but haven’t had the time to attend. With the right catalyst (free tickets) we’ll have one of our best and brightest in NYC to learn and share.

Thank you for the opportunity.

Though I’ve been a full-time front-end website developer for many years, I always work to keep my skills and thinking fresh. Conferences like these are essential to my professional development but unfortunately, due to the current economic climate, I could not afford to attend without this free conference pass. If chosen, I would also Tweet constantly about what’s going on to share the information with as many as possible. Thank you for your consideration.

I work for a big company, designing for the corporate portal. We have had a freeze on any sort of conference or training for more than a year now. I follow design trends on the web, but yearn for more. With the strict guidelines we have to follow, it is challenging at times to create elegant design work. I would love to expand my repertoire and see what others are doing. I would happily come up with my own travel money and take vacation days in order to attend!

I am just about to launch a startup business and would have loved to budgeted this into my plans, but my funds only stretch so far, so winning a ticket would be a great opportunity.

A well designed/assessable front end is what I am aiming for and I think this conference would give me a chance to get my designs on track and avoid any pitfalls.

I’m the sole web designer/producer for a small company and do freelancing as well. Neither of my jobs has the budget to provide access to a conference like FOWD. It’s NY and its FOWD. Who could pass the opportunity to hang with the biggest brains in the industry in the best city in the world?

Oct 18, 2009 at 3:39 pm

The more I see and hear about design for the web, the more I want to improve my understanding and make the best possible sites around. Being familiar with some of the presenters already, and knowing what a strong and current curriculum they have to offer is truly exciting and I’d love nothing more than the opportunity to go. Unfortunately the company I work for does not see the same amount of value in this always-be-learning type of activity as I do, and I cannot realistically afford to go on my own dime.

Winning these tickets would mean a lot to me. :)

Chelsea Parker
Oct 18, 2009 at 7:33 pm

As we all know, the job market is getting to be more depressing than those ASPCA commercials with the Sarah McLachlan songs. And I’m smack dab in the middle of it as a recent college graduate who’s sent out 109 resumes and job applications in the past month (with no response), and who’s had to swallow my pride and move back in with my parents. So now, I’d do pretty much anything to break up the monotony of my everyday routine of spending 18 hrs a day trying to find employment.

(the gist: Getting the chance to go to FOWD would be a shining glimmer of hope to combat the dismal state of the job market’s effect on me.)

Plus, I’d love to get the chance to practice self-control by trying not to pee my pants in front of the likes of such an amazing collection of web design industry celebrities!

Whether I’m picked or not, thank you for the opportunity Nick, and for maintaining such a fantastic and inspirational collection of sites!

I could preach about how i am poor, and how i am a great designer, but in reality we are all struggling, if you are an artist, it is pretty hard to survive on that alone. I do not have the funds to pay for tickets to things like FOWD, but would love to go, because i spend a majority of my life researching design and to better my design knowledge, along with skills. I do know a bit of programming, but would like to learn and progress. To have the opportunity to join the presents of leaders in our industry would be an honor and a delight.

cheers, and thanks for the chance to win tickets.

I work for a large company in a small team of designers based in the UK. The marketing team for years have given us impossible deadlines to meet and this has compromised the quality and stifled our ideas. Now though things have started to change and the company is taking a more positive step towards making our sites more user friendly, web compliant and more pioneering too. With the extra time we now have i am looking to take some of my team forward and FOWD is a great place to start. I always feel re-energised after attending and am given ideas that really make a difference. I think it would really open our eyes and offer us a chance to step back from the clutter and see where we should be headed. Thanks

Oct 19, 2009 at 8:31 am

Hello. Here’s some backstory: I am a designer in an ad agency in the philly area which has only recently begun to shift away from direct mail and into digital media. Many of the ‘old hats’ who run the agency are still blown away by bursts and gradients and flash 7. Whenever I try to tout the merits of WP, CSS, Coldfusion, etc – I’m mercilessly bludgeoned with “just do what the f— we tell you.” a la J. Jonah. Jameson. I cannot get my bosses to shell out the money to upgrade from CS2, let alone attend a conference on the future of web design, which I love to learn.
Please support this technologically- malnourished designer.

Thank you.

Great to see women represented (3) in the speaking roster. Didn’t the conference get some grief last year for being male centric? The schedule looks excellent.

I would LOVE to go because a) I’m passionate about web design and would love to learn more from the design gods going to this event, b) I can’t afford to go and my boss refuses spend the money to send me there because they only spend money on equipment for the developers, and c) I love New York! Thanks for doing this guys!

Web design is a HUGE part of my life! I just graduated with my BA in Web design and so this would be INCREDIBLY important and great experience for me to attend this. As a fellow Web designer and developer we all need to stay up on the trends and be in tune with what the future holds! Money has been a bit tight lately and I otherwise will not be able to attend! I would also LOVE to be able to attend the workshops and hear the great minds of companies such as Vimeo.

As soon as I heard FOWD was going to be in NYC in November I began to lose 10 minutes of actual sleep time each night. Each night an additional 10 minutes of sleep is seemingly disappearing as the thought of what will be certainly the most impacting Web c. At this point I sleep only one hour. Tomorrow……..50 minutes…. I must go to FOWD in November or I might never sleep again. How am I to continue to improve my web skills and grow my business if I don’t attend this amazing web design conference? I don’t know, and I don’t want to find out. Please select me as the winner. I will be forever grateful and I will sleep for weeks!!!!

SIncerely,

Hey Nick,

I’m an Interactive AD here in NYC (Which, at my Agency, means an AD who deals with 98% online content). For the past year we have been so focused on winning new business and pumping out work in bulk to keep “hitting our numbers” that I’ve barely had time to open my eyes to what’s new on the horizon of my own industry!
I would love the chance to attend FOWD and hopefully come back to work ready to push our creative work to where it should be – to places we’ve yet to take it. Thanks!

I am overwhelmed with excitement to attend this conference.

I cannot come to think of a way of thanking my employer, who has willingly funded me these workshops and conference. Unfortunately, she is unable to make this expense for herself.

Web design is my life and i want to learn as much as possible and by attending that conference, i would really really really get to learn how the big guns do it properly!

Funny thing is that I will be in NYC (currently from Toronto) during those days for a wedding anyhow, so it would be a great opportunity to be able to attend and become more involved.

Thanks!
Dan

I’ve been doing online design since 1990. That makes me old but still very eager
to stay current and take my design to the next level. I’d love to go but can’t afford to pay for it!
