Hello 2009 and Happy New Year to everyone! To celebrate the new year, I have 5 copies of 3D Spiral from Flashloaded to giveaway. 3D Spiral is a Flash gallery component that displays images on an interactive 3D rotating spiral using the Papervision3D engine. It has various parameters that allows you to customize the layout of the spiral. The viewer can navigate through the gallery images with the mouse or arrow keys (check out the samples: Demo 1 and Demo 2). As usual, simply enter a comment in this post to enter the contest (before January 14, 2009).

Update: The contest is closed and the winners are: 70, 91, 609, 664, and 790.

How To Win Your Free Copy?

  • Post your comments about the 3D Spiral in this post.
  • One entry per person. Duplicate comments will be voided and deleted.
  • Winners will be contacted by email (so make sure your email address is correct).

Comment entries will be accepted until January 14, 2009. Then we will randomly generate 5 winning numbers from the comment list. 5 winners will receive a free copy of the 3D Spiral component.

Jan 1, 2009 at 4:16 am

haha, how about the first ubuntu post~~, and the owesome spiral~~

Jan 1, 2009 at 4:24 am

Wow, honestly? That’s really, really cool… and I think if I came across it on a portfolio I was actually trying to browse, it would make me nuts. I saw an image fly past that I wanted to look at, and it took me way too long to find it again, and figure out how to get back there. Ah well, form over function I guess. I’m probably biased; any sort of flash-based portfolio drives me nuts. =)

Jan 1, 2009 at 4:24 am

It could be perfect for a portfolio. Impressive :)

Jan 1, 2009 at 4:25 am

Pretty neat effect, I suppose it isn’t all that practical, but heck, it sure is a nice bit of eye-candy that could complement any website.

Huh…the second one seems a bit unusable what with all the twirling and everything, but the first one seems pretty cool as a gallery type thing. I guess if you can turn off all of the bells and whistles, this thing might be pretty cool.

Wow, awesome.. I would like to win this if i’ve good luck..

Jan 8, 2009 at 3:09 am

Wow, that is a lot of comments. But I guess the prize is worth it. :) As a web designer myself, I’m a big fan of unique interfaces and websites. And I love using 3D. However I also think it is easy to get carried away. Cool effects without a purpose can only get you so far.

Still, I’ve seen this spiral gallery before. It seems well done and very customizable. I did a very rough mockup of a site design with this gallery in mind. You can see it here: http://unfinisheddream.com/misc/clouds-v1.jpg . The concept however still lacks a purpose for really using the 3D.

Ideally I would love to see if you could position the spiral so you are looking from the top down through the middle. Anyone know if you can do this?

I have a small photography and design business in Holland and we are ready for a new website that will be trendy, 2009 and inspiring. When I was reading the magazine web designer I notice this website and the 3d spiral.

It is just great (I can type another 50 lines why it is great, but “It is just great” says it al……..

Wow now thats totaly Fonzie. Hardly a surprise though seeing as everything you post is cool and relevant for todays designers. You should have a new strapline for webdesigners wall. How about ‘Making websites Fonzie’.

I just love you. x

This 3D spiral is very cool! I love how it allows you to move up and down and still show all your work in the same window. I listed my site above which is not up and running yet. I am a Senior at Longwood University in Virginia and believe this would pair perfect for my personal portfolio site. My site is just getting the foundations underway but with this 3D tool it would be awesome to design my portfolio site around it. Such as the navigation menu. I do not have extensive experience with HTML and flash but enough to add a sweet graphic like this. Cool find much better than a plain grey light-box.

This is completely new to me.
In school we are developping an application wich generates thumbnails based on the tags 2 users have in common, to open up a dialog with new people. (let’s say a facebook with a visual navigation only)
this would be a great addition to the project.
i hope you consider.

Very cool effect and very cutting edge right now. I have seen a few major websites using these kind of effects to display mixed media with great results.

Jan 14, 2009 at 4:33 pm

This is an extremely cool tool that I could actually really use in designing this website that I’ve been working on (even though I’m still trying to get past the tricky barrier of trying to figure out how to actually put a website together in the first place, but it would still be helpful).

Jan 14, 2009 at 5:14 pm

That’s what I was looking for.

Jan 14, 2009 at 5:20 pm

Even without the give-aways your site is really cool and informative. I could really use a new way to display my portfolio.
