SWFaddress and Best Samples 85
Don't you find it frustrating to browse Flash sites because you can't use the browser's back/forward button or send your friend to a certain section? The solution to this problem would be SWFaddress — a small Javascript library that lets you create virtual URLs for Flash and Ajax. SWFaddress has been around since 2006, and surprisingly not all Flash sites are utilizing this tool. In this post, I've collected 20 sites (Flash and Ajax) that are using SWFaddress.

Nice collection. Good to see others getting on the SWFaddress bandwagon. I never build a Flash site without it now.
One thing you overlooked was that SWFaddress makes Flash truly search engine friendly, enabling search engine spiders to crawl every “page” of the Flash site and index them accordingly.
I think that part of the problem with low adoption rate might be that SWFaddress does have a bit of a learning curve associated with it and Flash designers lacking a development or programming background might be a bit intimidated.
Thank you, Nick!
Wow, that’s an really interesting article. I actually like flash websites pretty much, but didn’t know about SWFaddresses before.
And a really beautiful collection of sites, too :-)
Thanks for collecting these. I added a link to this page to the SWFAddress Resources page.
Another thing I dislike about flash pages: You can’t usually open links in new tabs. That’s even a problem when using only some flash buttons.
But nice collection.
Wow. Great!
I’ve never heard of SWFaddress before.
Thanks alot buddy.
Hi Nick, I really like you work! Please post a new tutorial like the picture flow gallary! That would be great!
Very nice thanks
I wonder how SWFaddress can be used for SEO. It would be interesting to experiment with, since lack of SEO is one of the biggest reasons I don’t use Flash to build websites.
A wonderful selection. Really nice. This js is an important thing. Thanks for this post!
very nice web design. thanks the share
Beautiful collection. SWFAddress has been very helpful.
@Bernhard H. – Yes, flash pages can open links in new tabs / windows. It hast to be predefined by the developer though.
Thanks, I never knew about this! Great collection, by-the-way!
This will probably be pretty useful in the near future. I’m currently working on a website that uses quite some flash, but this was one of the problems that bothered us the most. Now we have a simple solution, thanks!
This is something I have always criticised flash for yet it has been around for 3 years. Excellent post and information. Thanks!
I guess so few websites use SWFAdress because it’s pretty hard to implement in big projects. Oftentimes you have to sacrifice gimmicks (like animations, transitions) to make it work properly.
nice collection
thanks for sharing
Nice !
We use it on every flash projects and this is a powerful tool for SEO or for smartphone. We can generate HTML version easily for iphone (for example) !!!
Oh, now this is a trick I haven’t heard of yet. Good stuff I’ll make sure to use it in any flash sites I make.
This seems like a great tool, but I’ve heard that it doesn’t fully work in IE for Mac (I’ve never tested this, however). Also for consideration is SWFObject (http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/), which allows for the replication of Flash content in the same HTML where the flash is embedded.
Thanks everytime a great collection :) thx
