I will be hosting a workshop with Refresh Events on advance WordPress theme coding. The event will take place in Toronto, March 25th 2010 at Rich Media Institute, 156 Augusta Ave. This workshop is for designers with CSS skills who want to learn how to convert a HTML template into a WordPress theme (no PHP skills required). You will learn how to advance themes using conditional tags, page templates, custom fields, and more. Details and registration.

Bonus: anyone who signs up for the workshop will get a $45 discount code from InMotion Hosting. You may use the coupon code in any business class shared-hosting, VPS, and dedicated server packages.

Wish I could be around for it. I’m in Michigan where nothing happens. :) But that sounds like it’d be fun.

Oh man, how I wish, I could attend this….. but I can’t even if I had the money, I couldn’t as I live across the other half of the world.

I hope and wish that you would provide some kind of VIDEO/SCREENCAST/WEB COVERAGE of the event, so that those like me, who can’t attend can also take part….

Thanks for the blog post, Nick.

For those that cannot make it because of distance, we’ll see if we can create a screencast with a video component.

If you have any questions about the event, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me personally; my contact info can be found below.

Sounds like a great event but 125.00 is a little rough, i assume a screencast would not cost 125 which would be unfair to the attendees.

Hope it goes great, i will send this out to some friends.

Just wondering… is there a deadline date for registering?

Feb 18, 2010 at 2:29 pm

@Darryl
I see what you’re saying, but it is a 7 hour class, so it’s plenty of time to learn a ton. I’ve seen a lot less priced a lot more more for training. I’d say it’s fair if you look at what many of us charge our clients to do the web work. The seminar and training business is a good one to be in to make money. But it’s expensive to rent locations too to hold them and equipment and staff rental as well.

Try to compare it to renting a jet ski or something. Price is about the same, but this is for a life skill you can use right away.

@Darryl:

Thank you for your feedback.

Given the amount of time and effort it takes to plan these types of events, and given the calibre of speaker we’ve recruited (Nick La, in this case), $125 is a steal. I know that sounds like a biased statement coming from me, but understand that you are getting access to an industry expert for very little money. There are WordPress workshops out there that go for far more than what we’re charging and I have my doubts about the quality.

If you (or anyone else) would like to discuss the matter further, I’d be happy to talk. My contact information can be found below.

Sincerely,

Justin Kozuch | Founder, Refresh Events

Justin’s right… this is definitely a steal! Something like this doesn’t come up very often and I’m lucky enough to live in Toronto so I jumped on the opportunity. Really looking forward to it :)

I think even if there was a webcast posted online I still would opt to go to the actual event because we’ll have the opportunity to talk to Nick La and network with others (although I can see why those not in Toronto would want to be a part of this in some way even if they couldn’t be here!)

Thanks again to Justin for organizing the event!!

WordPress is one of the best content management system as well as blogging site provider. There are many advantages of using it like it is free, fast to setup and easy to learn. It contains lots of plugins and templates so you don’t need to be a developer or designer to have a nice looking site with lots of features.
