Another very nice Microsoft event. I’m thinking to make a 3hr trip from Redmond/Bellevue, WA, where Microsoft is located, to Vancouver on June 2nd. It will be nice if I win either Expression Studio or 250GB LaCie Drive. Cheers!

Great giveaway, anyway, I didn’t like that the webpage for the event was on flash… I think that’s not a difficult design to reproduce with html+css+jquery

Chris Praley
May 29, 2009 at 8:49 pm

I really want to go! I love conventions like these, even if it is Microsoft there. There’s usually a lot of innovative people there.

Angie, Microsoft Canada
May 30, 2009 at 6:01 pm

Hi everyone – it’s great hearing all the positive comments about the event. My name is Angie and I am one of the lead organizers of ‘Make Web, Not War’ 09. It is one of the first times we’ve done something like this from Microsoft for the Web Community & really looking forward to seeing you all there. I have noticed some confusion about what the event is really about so here are a few things in summary, that will be of benefit to you:

o Hear from other Web Partners who build on Open Source & Microsoft technologies
o Network with fellow members of the Web Community
o Learn about the latest Microsoft technologies & how they work with Open Source
o Get technical training of Web Tools to build your Web Development portfolio
o Win prizes in the Web Partner Contest & get your Web Warrior DVD of all the latest Microsoft Web Resources

If you have any questions or feedback about the event, feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected] or follow me on twitter @angielim. If you are looking for more information feel free to join the Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=118669152176&ref=ts or our Twitter feed at @WebNotWar.

I will be sure to post the first video of the event as soon as it is live to share with you all. :) Look forward to hearing from you all or seeing you at the Toronto & Vancouver events.

Cheers,
Angie

I was surprised that there was so little info offered for what looks to be an outstanding event. Will continue to watch for updates to their site. Site design is interesting but it might have been fun to create the look that the video is going for – 60’s Make Love not War look.

Ya looks like a great event for all web developers out there. Also its a gud news that microsoft has now started providing greater support for php web applications through their tools and server. Hope this will help tame the ulimited possibilities of the PHP language using simpler tools and GUI’s.

I particularly hope that this event they announce the death of IE6! =)

The StarWars Intro image on Make Web Not War is pretty funny.

If the event was in Chicago I would definitely check it out, should be a bunch of fun.

Thanks to Microsoft and Web Designer Wall for an awesome opportunity.

It’s good Microsoft tries to organise this sort of things to get closer to their most hated people, the webdevs/designers who have to code for the IE’s :(

I just hope they’ll announce some drastic change there :)

Thanks for the sponsor though, yay for microsoft! (I actually said it :P )

Why are all the awesome cons in Canada? Maybe I need to organize a road trip! Tech con envy aside, I am going to a horror con this month to meet Bruce Campbell and Robert Englund, so I guess that makes up for it. (:

Enjoy if you are going!

it would be interesting to see what Microsoft’s view of what “making the web” is. IE is notoriously the worst browser to code for.

Michael Wilson
Jun 1, 2009 at 7:40 pm

Hahaha, this should be interesting – I don’t have anything against Microsoft, they just.. shouldn’t be doing browsers anymore. I hope silverlight comes out with some sick tech though.

Well, in the office we have tasted the expresion web since the first version and i don’t know if is so usefull, Adobe is a really monster too defeat. I would like to know how microsoft will teach or convince to use expresion blend, design, etc. The best software that the suite have is Expression web, it´s really great! I used for construct the html/css of http://www.metrabajo.com. It’s like a dreamweaver CS3 but can read better microsoft lenguage and it have a very usefull thing that is that you can see the Styles aparience in the box of CSS, it´s really nice. But I cannot get used with Expression Blend. Expression Design is very very simple. The othes soft i have never tested.

Peter
Jun 3, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Im wondernig what Microsoft brings to the web for new stuff. They are way behind in the browser market as they stood still the last couple of years in the eyes for new techniques.
Although IE8 comes close they better make a kill update for IE6 users so that they will update to a newer version what makes life easier for developers around the world!

Hope I win the studio software ;-)

Interesting, but in toronto for example only have capacity for 200 people, I think they don’t plan it to be a really international event, otherwise some itens from agenda look very attractive like the ftw and the audience interaction for example, I like games so my vote for game loung should not matter hehe.

Hi All,
I am from the UK and are visting family and friends in Canada for a few weeks, anyways I went to ”Make Web Not War” event, it was my first Microsoft event and pretty happy I did. Building Interoperadle Web Apps with PHP (this presentation by Yann Larivee speaks about what makes PHP one the the most dominant technologies for web development) it was intresting and PHP rocks!!! I hope next time they give a bag to put the goodies in…oh and those lovely prizes… :) Derek
