If you’re a regular visitor, you should know that Web Designer Wall is always giving out free Flash components. This time, we’re giving out 5 copies of 3D Wall from Flashloaded. 3D Wall is a Flash CS3 component that lets you create an interactive wall that looks 3D! It’s very flexible, easy to use, and is a cool addition to any gallery/portfolio sites (check out my samples: Demo 1 and Demo 2)

If you missed our free PhotoFlow component draw last time, you don’t want to miss this one!

Update: The contest is now closed and the winners are: 91, 221, 658, 825, and 980.

How To Win Your Free Copy?

  • Post your comments about the 3D Wall in this post.
  • One entry per person. Duplicate comments will be voided and deleted.
  • Winners will be contacted by email (so make sure your email address is correct).

Comment entries will be accepted until June 6, 2008. Then we will randomly generate 5 winning numbers from the comment list. 5 winners will receive a free copy of the Flashloaded 3D Wall component.

What is 3D Wall?

3d wall screenshot

3D Wall is a Flash CS3 component that allows you to create a stunning 3D interactive wall without any ActionScript skills. Create a unique look for you photo gallery or portfolio by letting your visitors scroll, tilt, or zoom through an interactive wall of pictures that you can make flat, curved, or angled.

3D Wall includes a built-in preloader for seamless transitions between thumbs and large images (images are specified in an external XML file). There are over 60 parameters to customize your wall, so you’ll have an unlimited number of looks and an enticing viewer experience.

How Does 3D Wall Work?

3D Wall is extremely easy to use. All you have to do is drop the component on the stage, customize the dimension and parameters, and within minutes you can create a completely interactive photo gallery. Below are two samples I created. With just several parameter changes, I designed two very different looking walls. Nice and easy. No programming at all.

3D wall looks a lot like an art project I did in college… except it was on a literal wall… and the only interaction was me getting to put it all up and take it all down.
Hours of fun.
3D wall looks a LOT more practical! :)

love your site! and this is very cool!
im not sure if it’s my version of flash, but there seems to be a bug in the demos..if i triple click (click thumb and zoom in, click out while its loading, then click back in before it loads/goes all the way back out) i stay zoomed in. which makes it very difficult to navigate…hmm

Wow! What a spectacular display. As a photographer, I’d love to show off some work with this 3D Wall.

My only negative experience is that my eyes got tired when the pictures were switching… I found myself not wanting to browse very long because of it. Maybe it needs a faster frame rate.

I love the fact that keyboard arrows work for navigation!

May 21, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Very neat and effective. Minor quibbles:
* Interface is dead-on with expectations… except when looking at a particular picture: clicking on the thin border on left or right some times moves to the next picture in that direction (which I expected, and would provide a good “detailed” modality of navigation), but in other cases is spun the “tube” for about half full rotation. Couldn’t understand why one or the other
* The vertical component of the “flip” gesture seems to be inverted, gestures sliding downwards move the top of the vertical axis of the cylinder towards the back. A “physical interpretation” of the gesture would suggest that, if you are ‘grabbing’ the cylinder, its vertical axis should move so that the top end becomes closer (i.e., the cylinder would fall on its face towards the viewer).
* I wonder how it scales with much larger numbers of pics?
Very neat, as I said, just minor quibbles – just to show you I care enough to be a good recipient of your free sample :)

Wow, very nice gallery. I haven’t browsed through all of the comments, but the method reminds me of TiltViewer from Airtight Interactive (Using a flash interface with images specified in an external XML file). The only thing I would do if I used this would be to put some navigation instructions in my page or the frame of a shadowbox/lightbox/highslide.

A great flash app & a great way to display pictures on a creative way. Too bad javascript/ajax are not the best languages for 3D-applications yet. I think this will be pretty much the best gift webdesignerwall is giving away and I would love to have a copy of this. =)

3DWall is great ! It’s an amazing feature seen in Apple’s worlds. This allow to take a quick view to the entire set of a picture to mesurate the tonality of whole release, as well as zooming a specific picture. I’m pretty sure we can make a wall-art with this app.

Cheers,

JuniorKane
May 22, 2008 at 8:58 pm

A very spiffy little plug-in, I could easily use this on my sites. My only minor issue with it is that there is no invitation to play with it, the user is expected to do this intuitively. Easily fixed with a bit of intro text and the user would have to be pretty thick to miss it, but we all know how mentally challenged some users can be…

That’s so very intriguing. I have never seen a flash thing done that way before. But it’s such a neat way to display artwork. Is that all it can do though? Can’t you also design how you want the wall to look itself? Like what if I want to make it pink, or add a background to it, to match the website? o_o”

Wow, the wall looks fantastic! one thing that would make it a wee bit better for me though, is if you could click and drag on the thumbnails themselves to rotate/tilt the view, it seems natural on most touch-screen technologies that if you can click and drag, it’ll work if the initial click is on a link or not :) (Would still love a fee copy!)

jools
May 26, 2008 at 4:47 am

It’s actually quite a stunning approach to displaying a gallery using Flash and XML. It looks simple and eye-catchy. It also looks nifty in terms of user-friendliness and because of the intuitive controls, for that reason it’s very inviting for any user to roam and pan like a director’s Panavision camera. I imagine the workflow would be easy to use and maintain when new photos are awaiting the 3D Wall treatment. Would love the opportunity to work with the Flash component and make the best of it.

weird. How many other sites are doing this give-away? Ether way, I use a FireFox addon called PicLens that does a similar thing. But this is still pretty cool looking. I’m trying to visualize a practical use on my site right now for this.

Julia
May 26, 2008 at 11:27 am

I’ve just ventured into the wide world of Flash to create my portfolio site, and this’d help me along my way! I like the animation and interaction, but I feel like a left and right rotate feature is missing. It’s not intuitive enough to just click on the left/right-most image to get an overview of all the work.

Max
May 26, 2008 at 2:41 pm

Demo 1 is amazing. I am so affected by the rotation that I had to play with it for a while. This kind of got me away from thumbnails and works themselves, but it is because I was checking the 3D Wall out and how it worked. It is great.

Simply marvelous! The 3D wall 1 is better since you have actual control over the movements of the gallery.

This is a great product especially for designers that are not coders or ActionScripters. Not only does it save you the hassle of coding this thing, but it saves a lot of time for every project! I would love to have a copy of this! Hope I get one!

Thanks a lot for the contest Nick! And Props to FlashLoaded! :)

It does look great… for web designers… but do you really think users are willing to wait a whole minute while the gallery loads if they’re just interested maybe in one single picture? I’m not so sure. Cool design, but the waiting time is just tedious, I’m afraid.

Robin
May 28, 2008 at 12:32 pm

I definitely like the wall, but I wonder if it could have added functionality? I haven’t read through 78 pages of posts so this may have been brought up, but it seems that small cursor tips could be incorporated to enhance usability. Example: when a mouse is hovered over a photo cursor changes to zoom icon with + symbol; if mouse is off photo and upper-right (when zoomed out) cursor changes to a rotate-right symbol… and so on. I didn’t have much problem figuring out the navigation aspects, but I can guarantee my parents would be frustrated really quick. Anyway, that’s my .02.

I like how the walls zoom in on the thumbnails. I think it would be better if the wall turned by mouse detection and not by click and drag. Also, the way it is currently set up, you can’t click and drag if your mouse is hovering over the reflection of a thumbnail, so the second wall doesn’t have much area where you can actually click and drag. I’d give it an 8 or 9 out of 10.
