Hello 2009 and Happy New Year to everyone! To celebrate the new year, I have 5 copies of 3D Spiral from Flashloaded to giveaway. 3D Spiral is a Flash gallery component that displays images on an interactive 3D rotating spiral using the Papervision3D engine. It has various parameters that allows you to customize the layout of the spiral. The viewer can navigate through the gallery images with the mouse or arrow keys (check out the samples: Demo 1 and Demo 2). As usual, simply enter a comment in this post to enter the contest (before January 14, 2009).

Update: The contest is closed and the winners are: 70, 91, 609, 664, and 790.

How To Win Your Free Copy?

  • Post your comments about the 3D Spiral in this post.
  • One entry per person. Duplicate comments will be voided and deleted.
  • Winners will be contacted by email (so make sure your email address is correct).

Comment entries will be accepted until January 14, 2009. Then we will randomly generate 5 winning numbers from the comment list. 5 winners will receive a free copy of the 3D Spiral component.

Jan 1, 2009 at 4:24 am

Wow, honestly? That’s really, really cool… and I think if I came across it on a portfolio I was actually trying to browse, it would make me nuts. I saw an image fly past that I wanted to look at, and it took me way too long to find it again, and figure out how to get back there. Ah well, form over function I guess. I’m probably biased; any sort of flash-based portfolio drives me nuts. =)

Hello my name is Adrian I obtained my associates degree in web design/development last winter. I love desining websites, creating new things with photoshop and flash. When I saw the 3D Spiral, I tought that this gallery component is a wonderful tool for us as developers. One of the most wonderful things is seeing how you can get different types of layouts when you change the height and witdth of the spiral. Also another feature that I like is that the viewer can scroll and zoom freely
The viewer can scroll, move up/down and zoom the spiral freely and one of the best things is that is easy to use. I really

I stumbled onto your site in the search for ways to make WBT built in Lectora more “zippy.” You have zip! I plan to look further into jQuery. The 3D Spiral could be a way to preview content, hmm.

What are your favorite reads and references? Thanks for the site.

Jan 8, 2009 at 3:09 am

Wow, that is a lot of comments. But I guess the prize is worth it. :) As a web designer myself, I’m a big fan of unique interfaces and websites. And I love using 3D. However I also think it is easy to get carried away. Cool effects without a purpose can only get you so far.

Still, I’ve seen this spiral gallery before. It seems well done and very customizable. I did a very rough mockup of a site design with this gallery in mind. You can see it here: http://unfinisheddream.com/misc/clouds-v1.jpg . The concept however still lacks a purpose for really using the 3D.

Ideally I would love to see if you could position the spiral so you are looking from the top down through the middle. Anyone know if you can do this?

dana.

I have a small photography and design business in Holland and we are ready for a new website that will be trendy, 2009 and inspiring. When I was reading the magazine web designer I notice this website and the 3d spiral.

It is just great (I can type another 50 lines why it is great, but “It is just great” says it al……..

This 3D spiral is very cool! I love how it allows you to move up and down and still show all your work in the same window. I listed my site above which is not up and running yet. I am a Senior at Longwood University in Virginia and believe this would pair perfect for my personal portfolio site. My site is just getting the foundations underway but with this 3D tool it would be awesome to design my portfolio site around it. Such as the navigation menu. I do not have extensive experience with HTML and flash but enough to add a sweet graphic like this. Cool find much better than a plain grey light-box.

This is completely new to me.
In school we are developping an application wich generates thumbnails based on the tags 2 users have in common, to open up a dialog with new people. (let’s say a facebook with a visual navigation only)
this would be a great addition to the project.
i hope you consider.
